AHOSKIE – The Ahoskie Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday afternoon outside a local business.

Ahoskie Police Chief Jimmy Asbell said one person was shot outside of the Ahoskie Market, located on North Academy Street. The incident apparently did not involve any employees or customers of the business.

“I do not believe that the injuries to the victim are life-threatening,” Asbell said, adding that a medical helicopter was summoned to Ahoskie to airlift the person to a regional hospital.

Asbell said his officers responded to a “shots fired” call at 1:25 p.m. in the area of 700 North Academy Street.

“We are currently investigating what took place there,” Asbell said.

When asked about a description of the suspect or suspects, Asbell said, “We’re working on that.”
