AHOSKIE, NC – Wilma Jean Askew, age 82, of Lloyd Street, passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC.

Mrs. Askew was born on February 17, 1939 to the late Dancie Cohen Ward and Lottie Sewell Ward in Harrellsville, NC. Wilma cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She worked as a sales associate most of her life and working at the Family Dollar Store was her favorite. She loved animals especially raising tropical fish and she was owner of Pete and Jean’s pet shop. Wilma enjoyed her quiet time reading the Bible. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Wilma is survived by her two sons, Bill Askew and fiancé Leigh, and Gary Lee Askew, both of Ahoskie; grandson, Atom Askew of Ahoskie; and sister, Bonnie Denton of Lawrence, NC, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 1, 2021, from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at 11:00 am at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Wallace Phillips, officiating. Burial will follow at Ahoskie Cemetery.
