A Garysburg man pleaded guilty this month to a federal weapon count and his sentencing is expected in December.

Dameon Rocky Turner was remanded back to custody by United States District Terrence W. Boyle after he entered the plea.

His sentencing is tentatively set December 6. The time, date and place are to be determined, according to court records.

Turner was indicted in June on a count which charges him as a felon in possession of a firearm when he was arrested on drug violations in February.

After his initial appearance in Greenville, he was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshals Service based on his prior criminal history; participation in criminal activity while on supervision or release; lack of a suitable release plan; evidence of flight; nature and circumstances of the offenses; pending unrelated charges or outstanding warrants; and noncompliance with prior supervision.

Also factored into his continued detention was evidence of drug trafficking activity and the presence of an aggressive or dangerous dog on his property.

The federal charge against Turner was based on an investigation by the Down East Drug Task Force and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

During the search of his residence in February, agents located approximately 490 grams of marijuana and a Draco-style AK-47.

Turner was originally arrested by the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division with assistance from the Garysburg Police Department and the SBI.

The agents and officers went to the 200 block of Truman Street in Garysburg to locate Turner. As they approached the residence, the agents observed Turner running away. He was caught after a brief chase and transported to the Edgecombe County Detention Center.
