Local E-911 Center hosting vigil, Sept. 10

WINTON – Hertford County E-911 Communications will be hosting a candlelight vigil in recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day.

The event will begin at 6 pm. on Friday, Sept. 10. It will be held at the rear of the Hertford County Courthouse (in front of the 911 Center) and will serve as a memorial for loved ones lost and an occasion of recognition for citizens of Hertford County to come together and acknowledge that suicide is real and know that they’re not alone.

The purpose of the event is to spread awareness on the topic of suicide, which is currently a top ten cause of death in the United States.

Anyone who has been affected by suicide in any way or who just wants to join in is invited to attend. There will be an array of support if anyone needs to talk or seek help.

Suicide is a preventable health issue and by starting open conversations about it there are lives that have the potential to be saved.
