Students at traditional public school across the Roanoke-Chowan area returned to the classroom on Monday, Aug. 23.

That day also marked the opening of the new Ahoskie Elementary School. The $21 million project includes an adjoining 350-seat auditorium that remains under construction [interior work].

The auditorium is scheduled to open in November and can be used for community events.

Students attending local private schools returned to class last week.

Hertford County Early College High School students were the first locally to open the 2021-22 academic year. They hit the books for the first time on Aug. 5.

Bertie Early College High School started classes last week (Aug. 17).

There are face mask mandates for students and staff at all local public schools.
