R-C Christian Women’s Job Corps gains grant

Roanoke Chowan Christian Women’s Job Corps recently received a $40,000 grant from the North Carolina Community Healing, a component of the North Carolina Community Foundation. These funds will help the organization recover and build back from the difficulties of the COVID virus.
The North Carolina Community Foundation brings organizations, people, and giving circles together to help organizations across our State in many ways.
Roanoke Chowan Christian Women’s Job Corps helps women with job skills and life skills to become self- sufficient.

“We help women with transportation and tuition for school as well as we have other classes on Friday including computer classes, repairing your credit, budgeting, professionalism, and others,” said Pat Byrd.
Roanoke Chowan Christian Women’s Job Corps has been serving Hertford, Bertie, Northampton, and Gates counties for 10 years. They opened a transitional house for women participating in their program who need a place to live as they work on their goals. The grant money will help keep this service going as well.
Their 2021 board leading these efforts include Jill Awuni, President; Claire Presley, Vice President; Linda Alexander, Treasurer; Pat Byrd, Secretary/Executive Director; Jeanette Tinkham, Rev. Katrina Futrell, and Sandra Woodard.
