JACKSON, NC – Edith Marie Holloman Drewette, age 86, passed away at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh on Friday, April 23, 2021. A native of Northampton County, Mrs. Drewette was born in Halifax County on October 17, 1934, the first of six children of Wilmer Clyde and Mattie Lawrence Holloman.

She was a retired registered nurse, having graduated from Johnston Willis Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. Mrs. Drewette was married to Robert (Bobsie) Eugene Drewette on December 1, 1956 and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage until his death in 2011. Her career started as an operating room nurse at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital and she ended up at the Northampton County Health Department before retiring. She will be remembered as one of the most caring and compassionate nurses and was always ready to help those in times of need.

She was such a sweet and kind Christian woman who loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her mother, Mattie Lawrence Hasty Holloman; her father, Wilma Clyde Holloman; and two brothers, Wilmer “Bill” Clyde Holloman Jr. and Charles Thomas “Tom” Holloman.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Flythe (William) of Jackson, and Dianne Creel (Buddy) of Conway; three sons, Robert “Bobby” Eugene Drewette Jr. (Norma Jo) of Jackson, William Thomas “Billy” Drewette, and George Randolph “Randy” (Jeneane) of Jackson; one sister, Evelyn Lorene Herring (Oscar) of La Grange, NC; and two brothers, Edward Holloman (Bonnie) of White Lake, and Jerry Holloman (Bess) from Hot Springs NC.

Also, surviving are five grandchildren, Lisa Flythe of Seaboard, Danielle McGee (Mark) of Margarettsville, Kimberly Brittenham (Jeremy) of Murfreesboro, Lou Crane (Jenn) of Durham, and Mindy Drewette (Ashley Tortorici) of Seaboard, Lauren Drewette (Joseph Smith) of Woodland, Hannah and Nicholas Drewette both of Jackson; five great-grandchildren, Avery and Anna McGee, Dalton and Ava Brittenham and Brantley Smith; and also her beloved feline companion, “Blackie.”

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 11 am at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Jackson, North Carolina with Rev. Larry Godwin and Rev. Keith Thomason officiating.

Interment will follow in Seaboard Cemetery in Seaboard, North Carolina.
