AHOSKIE – An Ahoskie man is recovering from a shooting that is under investigation by the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Dexter Hayes said his deputies were dispatched to a residence at 104 Trade Street, located off West Modlin Road. Upon their arrival, deputies found 24-year-old Jamal Sloan suffering from a gunshot wound.

Hertford County EMS transported Sloan to Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie. He was later transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Hayes said Sloan was inside the residence when an unknown male, dressed in all black, entered and shot Sloan once in the upper torso and then exited, fleeing on foot.

“No one in the mobile home park could provide any information about the shooting or the suspect,” Hayes said. “The victim didn’t have any information to add to assist in the investigation.”

Hayes is asking those with information that could help the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office solve this case to call 252-358-7800.
