Rich Square man faces drug charges

RICH SQUARE – One man was arrested following the execution of a drug search warrant here Wednesday in the 1600 block of Bolton Road.

The investigation was conducted by Northampton Sheriff’s Lt. C.A. Parker based on officer and citizen complaints. The warrant was served by the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division and the Criminal Investigations Division with assistance from the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office.

During the search of the residence, agents seized 35 individual wrapped plastic baggies of crack cocaine packaged for sale, five additional grams of crack cocaine and a digital scale.

Parker arrested and charged Joseph Powell, 46, for possession with intent to sell and delver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Powell was given a $1,500 bond and a court date on March 11.

In a statement, Lt. Parker urged the citizens to continue to report illegal drug use and distribution as the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office will follow up on any complaint large or small.
