MURFREESBORO – Lynn Whitley Gray, age 78, of Jay Trail, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at the Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital of Ahoskie, NC

A native of Hertford County, Lynn was born on November 13, 1942 to Stanley Waff and Jessie Lynn Lowe Whitley in Murfreesboro, NC. Lynn worked as a secretary for Chowan University for many years. She was a longtime member of Murfreesboro Baptist Church and was very active, especially with the ladies in the church that were in the crocheting club. They were so proud in making baby bonnets for babies and shawls for nursing home and chemo patients. She and Jimmy enjoyed going to Lake Gaston with their friends, Larry and Earlene Futrell, fishing, jet skiing, and spending many holidays together. Lynn was a loving wife and mother and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Jimmy R Gray, Sr; her sister, Delphia Tucker; and her brother, Stanley Decater Whitley.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Dicksie G. McLean and husband, Daren of Lillington, NC; her son, Jimmy Richard “Ricky” Gray Jr. and his wife, Beth of Oxford, NC; and a granddaughter, Ashton Lynn McLean of Lillington, NC; also surviving is two brothers-in-law, Glenn Gray and wife, Diane of Murfreesboro, NC, and Harold Tucker and wife Myrna, also of Murfreesboro, and special friends, Earlene and Larry Futrell of Murfreesboro, NC.

Due to COVID restrictions friends are welcome to pay their respects and view Mrs. Gray on Saturday, March 6, 2021, from 2-6 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel-Murfreesboro, Murfreesboro, NC.

A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at 2 p.m. at the Riverside Cemetery, Murfreesboro, NC, with Rev. Lane Bass, officiating.
