JACKSON – Two men were killed and four others were injured in a head-on crash along US 158 near here Monday evening.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper D.J. Brake identified the deceased as Jalik Jaquan Fields, 20, of Roanoke Rapids and 22-year-old Charles Futrell Jr. of Knightdale.

Trooper Brake said Fields was the driver of a 1999 Toyota passenger car with Futrell as his passenger. There were two other passengers in that vehicle and both were airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. On Tuesday afternoon, Brake said he was still working on learning the identity of those two individuals.

The Trooper added that Fields – traveling east on US 158 shortly before 6 pm – caused the accident by passing another vehicle in a no-passing zone in an area just west of Boones Millpond. His vehicle then collided head-on with a 2014 Chrysler passenger car, traveling west, driven by 30-year-old Darnell Shaeef Holder of Jacksonville, NC.

Trooper Brake said Holder and a passenger, 34-year-old Jhonice Jones of Dolphin, VA, were injured and taken to a local hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown.
