WINDSOR – Anne Burch Mitchell of Hoggard Mill Road died Tuesday, December 2, 2020 at Vidant Bertie Hospital. She was born December 28, 1934 in Bertie County to the late William Russell and Verlie Mae Peed Burch. She married her beloved husband, George Burch Mitchell, December 24, 1951. They were married 61 years and had three children; Anita M. Gurkin (Monk) of Williamston, Kip Mitchell and Kim Mitchell both of Windsor; granddaughter, Liz White (Josh); and one great grandchild, Bryson White of Williamston. Anne had two brothers, Joe A. Burch and wife Judy of Hertford, and Donald M Burch of Bristol, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

Anne worked with Bertie County Schools for 37 years. She was an avid reader with a delightful sense of humor. Her caring nature and quick smile touched the lives of all who knew her. Anne was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 50 years and was the president of the PTA when her children were in school. She founded the Bertie Horse Club for mentally challenged children and was a member of Roanoke Chowan Mental Health Board for 30 years and served as chairman for 8 of those years. She was also a member of Bertie County Youth Task Force for 20 years.

She asks to please remember her by being kind to one another.

A graveside funeral service will be held Friday December 4, 2020 at 11 a.m. in Edgewood Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Chris Lee will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Edgewood Baptist Church, PO Box 733, Windsor, NC27983
