MURFREESBORO – A head-on crash near here Wednesday evening claimed the lives of two Hertford County residents.

The mishap occurred on NC 11, approximately three miles south of Murfreesboro at the Horton Road intersection.

There, according to NC Highway Patrol Trooper J.O. Sampson, Jennifer Lynn Raynor, age 36 of Como, was operating a 2018 Ford passenger car southbound on NC 11. Meanwhile, a 2001 Saturn passenger car, driven 25-year-old Alfonza Andre Beverly of Como, was northbound on NC 11.

Trooper Sampson’s accident report revealed that Raynor’s vehicle went left and center and collided with Beverly’s car.

Both drivers were pinned inside their vehicles and died at the scene, according to Sampson.

William Raynor, 42, was a front seat passenger in Jennifer Raynor’s vehicle. He was injured and was transported to Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.

The accident forced the closure of NC 11 for approximately two hours.

The deadly crash raised the death toll to 15 this year in the NCHP’s Troop A / District II area (Bertie, Gates, and Hertford counties). Nine of those fatalities have occurred in Hertford County.
