With the exception of widespread power outages, Gates County avoided any major damage from Hurricane Isaias.

Billy Winn, the county’s Emergency Management Director, told the R-C News-Herald this morning (Tuesday) that 4,500 homes are without power.

“That’s our biggest issue,” Winn said. “We have some power lines down, but it appears the major trouble is at the substations. If that is indeed the case, then that means once repairs are made a lot of people get their power restored at the same time.”

Winn added there are some homes impacted by fallen trees, but fortunately no one was injured.

“Some of our roads are reduced to one lane in spots due to fallen trees, but all are passable at this time,” Winn said during his interview at 11 a.m. “DOT is saying they’ll be able to clear all lanes of travel by the end of the day.”

He added that numerous volunteers were working by daybreak helping to clear the roads.
