Two armed robberies on Thursday afternoon occurring roughly 30 minutes apart at local businesses may be connected.

Northampton Sheriff Jack Smith confirmed that Dollar General in Seaboard was the scene of an armed robbery at around 2:20 p.m.

Smith told the R-C News-Herald that no one was injured in the robbery.

At 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, the Family Dollar in Weldon was robbed at gunpoint. There were no injuries.

On Friday morning, Weldon police Chief Chris Davis told www.rrspin.com that after speaking with a representative of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, investigators believe “it’s going to be the same person.”

Late Thursday, Davis released security camera photos of the suspect in the Family Dollar robbery.

“We’re still trying to figure out who the suspect is,” Davis said.

The Weldon robbery involved a man, possibly wearing a black coat with a camouflage mask covering his face, entering Family Dollar brandishing a black handgun with a silver slide. The man demanded money and left the store presumably on foot with an undisclosed sum. He was last seen headed east toward Highway 301.

Davis said the man stood around 6-feet tall and had a medium build, probably weighing around 180 pounds.
