COLERAIN – Ronald Elbert Jernigan, age 69, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2020 surrounded by his family at his home.

Mr. Ronald was born on March 11, 1950 to the late Starkey and Mattie Jernigan in Ahoskie, NC. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Ronald cherished his family, especially the time he spent with his grandchildren babysitting them during their summer breaks. Ronald worked in maintenance for the Department of Transportation of North Carolina for many years before retiring. Ronald enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and cooking fish for those family get-togethers. He was a huge sports fanatic, pulling for the Atlanta Braves and the Dallas Cowboys. Ronald was a quiet, gentle soul that adored his Elm Grove community, the township where he was born and raised. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

Left to cherish Ronald’s memory is his loving wife, Christie; son, Brian K. Jernigan and wife Noelle of Williamston; two daughters, Melissa L. Jernigan of Colerain, and Amy Pierce and husband Phillip of Jamesville; brother, Paul Jernigan and significant other, Terry Pierce of Colerain; two sisters, Linda Eileen Elks of Grimesland, and Louise J. Jernigan and husband Joseph of Colerain; grandson, William Joel Pierce of Jamesville; granddaughter, Caroljean Rose Pierce of Jamesville; along with a host of extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 19, 2020 from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, and other times at the home.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Monday, January 20, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. at the Elm Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Preston Jernigan officiating.
