AHOSKIE – Betty Lassiter Barnes, age 87, passed away peacefully, on Monday, January 13, 2020 at the Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC.

Mrs. Barnes was born on August 28, 1932 to James and Mary Lassiter in Bertie County, NC. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, that loved her family dearly. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, needle point, and cross stitch. She sewed her own clothes and collected ceramic dolls. Although she spent most of her life at home taking care of her family, she enjoyed working with her hands on the farm and in the bakery and florist. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

She was preceded in death by husband, Albert Warren Barnes; father, James William Lassiter; mother, Mary Elizabeth Suis Lassiter; son, Albert Dean Barnes; sister, Dean Clark; and brothers, Thurman Lassiter, Walter Lassiter, and Charlie Lassiter.

Betty is survived by her sister, Macie Stewart of Murfreesboro; son, Billy Ray Barnes of Edenton; two daughters, Melinda Futrell and husband Henry of Aulander, and Sarah Barnes and husband Michael of Kelford; four grandsons, Chase Barnes and wife Erica of Edenton, Clay Futrell and wife PJ of Morgantown, WV, Bobby Futrell of Aulander, and Michael Barnes and wife Jackie of Aulander; three granddaughters, Caitlin Barnes of Emerald Isle, Christine Moore and husband Matt of Severn, and Candace White of Severn; five great-granddaughters, Cora Futrell of Morgantown, WV, Cara Barnes of Emerald Isle, Emma Barnes and Ellie Barnes of Edenton, Hailey Moore of Severn, and; four great-grandsons, Casen Futrell of Morgantown, WV, Cade Barnes of Emerald Isle, Billy Thomas Moore of Severn, and Ean Barnes of Edenton; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel, Ahoskie, NC.

A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 2 p.m. at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. John Porter, officiating.
