HARRELLSVILLE – An’Twon Jaquai White stands accused in a shooting that sent a Hertford County man to the hospital on Dec. 18.

White, age 21 of Quebec Road in Harrellsville, was jailed under a $30,000 secured bond on the charges of attempted first-degree murder and possession of a stolen firearm.

Hertford County Sheriff Dexter Hayes said the incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. outside of a residence located in the 200 block of Quebec Road.

It was there that responding deputies located the victim, 21-year-old Dennis Aubrey Jones, who lives in the 100 block of Quebec Road. Jones was lying in the driveway, suffering from a gunshot wound to his stomach.

Sheriff Hayes added that while his deputies were en route to the scene they were advised that the suspect had left the residence in a blue Toyota passenger car. A vehicle matching that description was spotted traveling on NC 561 East. HCSO Deputy B. Williams initiated a traffic stop on that vehicle and detained all three occupants.

Back at the residence on Quebec Road, deputies interviewed Jones who identified White as the shooter. White was among the occupants of the vehicle stopped by Deputy Williams.

While at the residence, HCSO Deputy W. Lassiter located multiple shell casings scattered about the driveway as well as shattered glass from what appeared to be a car window.

An investigation as to the motive for the shooting is still underway.
