JACKSON – The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office will be implementing a new program to assist with keeping a daily check on senior citizens throughout the county.

The new program “RUOK” (Are you ok?) is scheduled to begin on Thursday, Jan. 2. This program will be a free service provided to Northampton citizens.

Senior citizens or members of their immediate families are eligible to fill out an application. Once approved, the NCSO will provide daily check-ups on senior citizens through the use of automated phone calls. If there is an unsuccessful completion of an answer by the senior citizen, their name and phone number will be flagged for immediate home visit by a NCSO Deputy.

The application process will include the senior citizen’s name, address, main contact number, next of kin phone number and name, doctor’s name and number, and emergency information.

Applications will be available for pickup at the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office in Jackson beginning Jan. 2.

“This new program is a key tool in the necessity and importance of keeping a check on our senior citizens throughout the county. It is another way of assuring that our citizens are safe and secure on a daily basis,” Northampton Sheriff Jack Smith stated
