AHOSKIE, NC – Hattie Rae Copeland Wiggins, age 93, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.

Mrs. Wiggins was born on June 3, 1926 to William Joseph Copeland and Sallie Mizelle Copeland in Bertie County, NC. She started working at the early age of 14 with Roses Department Store and remained there until she retired. Hattie was an avid baseball fan and especially enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago Cubs. One of her favorite pastimes when her husband was living was to sit on the front porch and people watch and going fishing.

Hattie was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend that will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Curtis Wiggins, Jr.; son, James Allen Wiggins; sisters, Katherin Stoneman, Thelma Dilday, Clarine Dilday, Dot Austin, and Grace Willis; and brothers, Bobby Copeland, and Billy Copeland.

Hattie is survived by her daughter, Judy Perry of Cofield; grandson, Walt Perry, II of Cofield; granddaughter, Allison Perry Wilkinson and husband Jason of Raleigh, NC; two great grandsons, Sam Wilkinson, and JC Wilkinson; special caregiver, Cora Lane; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Anita Thompson officiating.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Accordious Health at Creekside for their wonderful and devoted care for Mrs. Hattie.
