AHOSKIE –The death of a 25-year-man here late Friday night has been ruled as a suicide.

At the outset of an investigation by the Ahoskie Police Dept. and the North Carolina SBI in the early morning hours of Saturday (Oct. 12), the death was deemed suspicious in nature.

APD Chief Troy Fitzhugh told the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald today (Monday) that the investigation determined the death was caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He said his officers received a call shortly before midnight Friday to respond to a residence in the 200 block of NC 561 East near Holloman’s Lane. Upon arrival, the officers saw an unresponsive man inside a residence. That individual had been shot, Fitzhugh said.
