The seven-year-old daughter of local paramedics needs your help!

For the second time in her young life, Krislyn Velvin faces a battle with Nephroblastoma, a childhood cancer (aka Wilms Tumors) that that attacks the kidneys. Krislyn heroically fought and courageously beat this cancer when she was just 18 months old. However, in the process, she lost an entire kidney and a part of her second one.

Recently during her routine scans there was a mass found, which means she now has to have a wedge resection. This is a surgery that could further impede the limited kidney function she already has. The pathology results that will come from this surgery will determine whether the Nephroblastoma has returned.

Krislyn will have surgery on Sept. 6 at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk, VA.

To help the family offset rising medical bills, donations are accepted at any branch of the State Employees Credit Union (an account is set up in the name of Velvin/Buckner Fundraiser). Another way to donate is online through GoFundMe (#KrislynStrong Velvin/Buckner Medical Fund).

No donation is too small and the family is grateful for anything that can be provided during this time. Gas and meal cards are also welcomed.

Krislyn is the daughter of Christopher Velvin and Jessica Hassell Velvin (step mother) who reside in Edenton and work as Paramedics with Bertie County EMS. Her mother is Kimberly Sawyer Buckner of Emporia, VA who has ties to Hertford, Northampton and Halifax counties.
