SEABOARD – The Town of Seaboard has been awarded a Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Project Loan in the amount of $999,280, with principal forgiveness, to replace approximately 3,200 feet of 2-inch to 8-inch waterline along Harris Street, Eastwood Street, and Jones Street.

Work also includes the addition of emergency generators for the Peanut/Market Well #1 and Crocker Street Well #2 and the addition of filters to treat the full flow from the existing wells. The provision of altitude valves are included for the connection to the Northampton County Water System as well as the installation of a new booster pump station and chemical storage building.

The Upper Coastal Plain Council of Governments’ Planning and Development Services department assisted Seaboard with the application preparation and submittal process and is expected to provide grant administration services and technical assistance related to the project for the Town, selected engineering firm and others involved.

UCPCOG Executive Director, Robert Hiett, stated, “We are once again honored to assist one of our eligible member governments in obtaining the necessary funds for much needed water infrastructure improvements. This brings our Region’s total active efforts to 16 projects involving nine municipalities and counties; one of the very best records in the state.”

“We are very excited to receive this award and look forward to beginning this work. Construction on this project should start in summer/fall 2021,” said Seaboard Mayor Geraldine Langford.

Charles Tyner, chair of the Northampton County Board of Commissioners, added, “Northampton County is excited for the Town of Seaboard and what this will mean for the county as a whole.”
