Municipal filing ends July 19

In an update to candidate filing for municipal seats in the Roanoke-Chowan area, submissions have been made for the available council/commissioner seats and mayor positions for the 2019 election cycle.

As of Tuesday morning, these are the 2019 municipal candidates:

Hertford County

In the town of Ahoskie, the candidate for mayor is Weyling J. White. Candidates for town council member Ward A is Matt Bradley, and Charles B. Reynolds for Ward B.

In Cofield, there are currently no candidates. The available positions are mayor and five town council member seats. These positions have a term of two years.

Candidates for Harrellsville town council members are Deborah A. Baker, Ronnie Revell, and Thomas Grimes. Henry Nuss is currently the sole candidate for mayor. There is an additional town council seat to be filled. The position has a two-year term.

In the town of Murfreesboro, the candidate for mayor is Hal Thomas. The candidate for town council member is Sarah Whitley Wallace. There are four additional town council member seats remaining and they serve two-year terms.

There are currently no candidates for mayor in Winton, and the sole candidate for town council member is James Donavon Cannette. In addition to the mayor position, there are four town council members’ seats available. All serve two-year terms.

If you would like to file in Hertford County, visit the Hertford County Board of Elections office at 418 Everett St, Suite A in Ahoskie. Their hours of operation are 8:30 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.

Bertie County

In Askewville, the candidate for mayor is Gloria M. Bryant. There are still three commissioners’ seats up for election, all with two-year terms.

There are currently no candidates listed for Aulander. The available positions are mayor and two commissioners’ seats, all serve terms of four years.

In the town of Colerain, the sole candidate for town commissioner is Al B. (Burney) Baker. There are three additional commissioners’ seats available, with respective terms of two and four years. The position of mayor is also up for election, which has a term of four years.

Candidates for mayor in Kelford are Ahmad Vaughan and Bailey N. Parker. Candidates for town commissioners are John (Timmy) Eaton, James H. Bland, Jr., Wayne Bland, Jim T. Harrell, Randy D. Robtoy, Kenneth Ray Cain, and Wade (Tim) Emory.

In the town of Lewiston-Woodville, Chris B. Cordon is the sole candidate for town council member of the Lewiston district. Seats are still available for Woodville District Town Council and Town Council at large. Each has a term of four years.

In Powellsville, Hattie Askew is the sole candidate for town commissioner. There are still two commissioners’ seats and the mayor position up for election. All have a term of two years.

Candidates for Roxobel town commissioners are Robert Phelps, Carolyn Bracy, David Lee Baisey, Sr., and Tim White. Gary Johnson is the sole candidate thus far for mayor.

In the town of Windsor, the candidates for town commissioners are Camille Holmes Rascoe, Dawn Brown Cherry, Randy Walston, and Cathy Wison.

If you would like to file in Bertie County, visit the Bertie County Board of Elections office at 210 Watson Street in Windsor. Their office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 1 pm and 2-5 pm.

Northampton County

The town of Conway currently has one candidate for board of commissioners; Walter Lee Duke, Jr. There are two remaining seats to be filled. These officers have four-year terms.

In Garysburg, Roy L. Bell is the candidate for mayor. The candidates for commissioners’ seats are Semiko T. Jacobs and Lola S. Ausby. There are three remaining commissioners’ seats to be filled, and they each have a term of two years.

In the town of Gaston, the candidate for mayor is Alice Patrick Delbridge, and the candidates for town commissioners are James Norton and Donald W. Conner. There is one remaining commissioners’ seat to be filled. The position has a term of four years.

Jason S. Morris is the sole candidate for mayor in the town of Jackson. There are two commissioners’ seats up for election with a four-year term.

The sole candidate for town commissioner in Lasker is Stevie Flythe. Mayor and two commissioners’ seats are remaining positions to be filled, both with two-year terms.

In the town of Rich Square, Reginald White is the sole candidate for mayor. The candidates for town commissioners are Charles Eason, Linwood Carroll Bryant, Larry Godwin, Raymond Joyner and Marcia P. Majett.

There are currently no listed candidates for the town of Seaboard. There are two commissioners’ seats up for election. These officers serve four-year terms.

In Woodland, Randy L. Beale Sr. is the sole candidate for mayor. There are two commissioners’ seats remaining to be filled. These officers serve a term of four years.

There are currently no listed candidates for the Northampton County representation on the Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District. There are three seats up for election, each with two-year terms.

If you would like to file in Northampton County, visit the Northampton County Board of Elections office at 9495 NC Hwy 305 in Jackson. Their office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm.

With candidate filing closing at 12 noon this Friday, July 19, there is still time to visit your county’s Board of Elections office to file for any of the available positions.

The 2019 General Election is Nov. 5.
