AHOSKIE – A suspect wanted for the May 19 robbery of Walgreens in Ahoskie has been arrested.

Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh reported that 40-year-old Henry Vann Mitchell Jr., who resides on the Ahoskie-Cofield Road, was arrested on Wednesday. Mitchell was charged with felony robbery with a dangerous weapon.

“We had information on the night of the robbery that Mr. Mitchell was responsible,” stated Fitzhugh. “The clerk at the store identified him before he was able to flee the scene.”

Fitzhugh said arrest warrants on Mitchell were drawn May 20.

“He (Mitchell) is accused of robbing the store of an undisclosed amount of money and some other items,” Fitzhugh said.

The Chief added that law enforcement officers were unable to locate Mitchell until Wednesday.

“When he was found and arrested, there were additional warrants served on him from both Pitt County and Pasquotank County, bringing his total bond to $500,000,” Fitzhugh stated. “I’d like to thank all those involved, to include my officers, for bringing Mr. Mitchell to justice.”

Additionally, the suspect’s mother – 60-year-old Lila Anthony Mitchell, who resides at the same address, was arrested and charged with felony accessory after the fact. She was jailed under a $20,000 secured bond.

APD Lt. Detective Jeremy Roberts investigated the robbery.
