You may ask, “What is Awana?” It is a world-wide nonprofit ministry focused on providing Bible-based evangelism and discipleship solutions for ages 2-19.

As the global leader in child and youth discipleship, Awana gives children the opportunity to know, love and serve Jesus, no matter their background. Participants learn through fun games, Bible verse memorization, age appropriate Bible lessons, mission work and other activities focused on spreading the Gospel.

Those taking part in Awana are able to earn various awards to celebrate their hard work each year. With all this activity, paired with home, school and sports, comes a level of dedication that can eventually lead to the presentation of the Citation Award. This is the highest award that can be earned in Awana. It is given only to high school seniors or adults who have completed 10 years’ worth of Awana curriculum – third through 12th grade – including all associated activities.

Union Baptist Church has presented Steven Bryant Futrell with this prestigious award. Steven has been supported throughout his years in Awana at UBC by his parents, Mike and Sheri Futrell, along with countless other family members, friends and church members who have all been contributors to his Christian education. With this support and his own personal drive and dedication, Steven has completed all of the requirements for earning the Citation Award and UBC celebrated these accomplishments with him this year.

Steven started out as a kindergartener the very first year that Awana began at UBC and has worked his way from there to be the first ever Citation Award earner with Awana at UBC. Church members are so very proud of his hard work and his relationship with Christ that is demonstrated in everything he does. They look forward to where God will take this young man and are excited for the example he portrays to the clubbers who participate with Awana at UBC.

Stacy Unger, Union Baptist Church Awana Commander, invites the public to the new Awana year starting September 2019. Call the church office (252-332-8049) for more information of dates and times.
