Sarah A. Garret

MURFREESBORO, NC – Sarah (Anderson) Eley Garret left this life on February 1, 2019, following a very long illness. She was 92 years old, born on October 22, 1926.

Sarah was one of eight children born to Leonard and Addie Hall Anderson. She was the last child to survive that union having recently lost her sister, Margaret, and her brother, Maxie.

She leaves to mourn her death her two sons, Ronnie J. Eley (Kathleen) of Douglasville GA and Ricardo A. Eley (Yolanda) of Silver Spring MD; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild ;and one great grand godson; a host of loving nieces and nephews, cousins and one loving sister-in-law, Jean Reid Anderson (Maxie). She was preceded in death by her oldest grandson, Gary David Daniel (Kim) just 18 days prior to her own death.

Sarah was married to Clifton Eley of Murfreesboro from January 1948 until his death in October 1978. She married to Aaron Leon Garrett in December 1980 until his death in February 1998. Sarah was a life-long member of the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church, Ahoskie NC.

In 1988, Sarah retired from NCNB (now PNC) in Murfreesboro NC after 22 years of faithful service. She was the first African American clerical worker at that branch.

Sarah has resided at Grace Assisted Living of Douglasville GA since 2014. She will be greatly missed by the residents and staff there.

She will be interred at a graveside service on February 23, 2019 at Carver’s Park Cemetery, Murfreesboro NC at 11 a.m.
