Rosario Mineo

AHOSKIE, NC – Rosario Mineo, formerly of Ahoskie, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019 in Gates House Assisted Living.

Mr. Mineo was born in Palermo, Italy, on August 21, 1935, and was the son of the late Antonino and Lorenza Gambino Mineo. A veteran, having served in the Italian Army, he owned and operated a home goods supply business in Italy before moving to the United States in 1984, settling in the Newport News and Norfolk areas of Virginia. In 1990 he and his family moved to Ahoskie, and founded their family business, Franco’s Pizza. Mr. Mineo believed in hard work, making an honest living, and caring for his family. A self-taught cook, who excelled in culinary, he found immense satisfaction in others enjoying his food. A Catholic by faith, he enjoyed gardening, where he was able to appreciate God’s hand in making things grow.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vincenza Scolaro Mineo; and by a son, Enrico Mineo.

Surviving are his daughter, Alessia Mineo Huckabee and husband, Tony, of Aulander; two sons, Tony Mineo of Ahoskie and Franco Mineo and wife, Beverly, of Kitty Hawk; a sister, Caterina Mineo, and a brother, Giovanni Mineo, both of Palermo; and eight grandchildren, Leah Britt, Francesca, Isabella, and Marco Mineo, and Reanna, Wayland, Caleb, and Blake Huckabee.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 17 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and will be conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Ward. Friends may join the family for a visitation in the funeral home immediately following the service. A private burial, where he will be placed next to his beloved wife, will be held Monday, Feb. 18 in Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie.
