“Conqueror: A Black Woman’s Guide to Conquering Challenges in the Workplace”, is a new book authored by Ahoskie native Paige Lewter Brown.

In the book, Brown recounts challenges she experienced in the workplace. Her qualifications and efficient performance did not stop individuals from treating her with disdain or even calling her out in the workplace. Despite the mistreatment, she remained resilient, conquered adversity and thrived in her field.

Her book explores the current state of the country as it relates to the treatment of African Americans and how it

translates into the workplace, and reveals how the author responded to several incidents of mistreatment and harassment. Readers will learn what it means to be a conqueror in the workplace; discover strategies for defeating challenges in the work environment; and learn how you can help others facing adversity in the workplace.

Brown is a graduate of North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University. She is an electrical engineer with experience in the aircraft and medical device industries.

She is a passionate STEM education advocate with significant education outreach and community service experience. This zeal for working with students led her to pursue her Ph.D. in Engineering Education.

For her work, she has been honored with the Women of Color Technology Rising Star Award, the National Society of Black Engineers Celestial Torch Award for Outstanding Young Engineer in Aerospace, and the Black Engineer of the Year Award for Community Service.
