RICH SQUARE, NC – On Friday, October 12, 2018, God in His infinite love and mercy, picked a very special flower from His garden, thus calling one of His children, Verna Smith Bracy, home from labor to reward. She passed away quietly at age 93, (born 12-16-1924), the last of nine siblings born to Molly and John Smith.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Soloman Bracy (in 1980); daughter, June Bracy Boone (in 1991); and siblings Mary, Fannie, Hazel, Tilman, “Preacher” (John Turner), Jay, Jimmy, and Louis. They all enjoyed the family and community “get togethers” whether cooking Brunswick Stew and BBQ at one of their homes or frying fish by the river. There was no shortage of laughter nor conversation, especially about the “ole days”.

She is survived by son, Johnny Medford (JoAnn); and daughter, Linda Boone (Al); seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was an active member of Sandy Run Baptist in Roxobel in earlier years, then joined Rich Square Baptist in 1992. She was a faithful choir member in both churches. In her mid-70’s she discovered art, which she enjoyed until her hands became physically unable to hold a brush. She gave most of her paintings to family and friends, therefore, they are in homes in several states.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 15, 2018, one hour prior to the funeral service from 2:00 pm until 2:45 pm in the Rich Square Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in the Rich Square Baptist Church, with Reverend Bob Rogers, officiating. Burial will follow at Roxobel-Kelford Cemetery.
