AHOSKIE – Roanoke Chowan S.A.F.E. has many activities scheduled for Domestic Violence Awareness Month during October and encourages survivors, family, friends and the whole community to support these events.

The first is “The Clothesline Campaign” where small banners are being handed out all over the community for people to display them on their clotheslines, on porches, in store fronts wherever someone can see it to bring awareness in the local community of the dynamics of domestic violence.

Also, “Rocks of Hope” are being hidden all around the community for people to find with inspirational sayings on them and also SAFE’s contact information. When a rock is found, call the SAFE office in Ahoskie and let them know you found one, re-hide it, or keep it and pass it to a friend that may need SAFE’s services.

Throughout the Month of October don’t be surprised if you see the “Ladies in Purple” coming in your business or knocking on your doors. These are the hard working advocates that work diligently with the victims of domestic violence to provide them with the much-needed services in order to get them violent-free. These ladies are introducing themselves and leaving awareness materials everywhere they stop.

Roanoke Chowan S.A.F.E. recently took on the endeavor of “Adopt a Highway.” They will be scheduling a domestic violence clean-up walk, soon.

Finally, Roanoke Chowan S.A.F.E.’s first ever “Trunk or Treat” will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 31 in the parking lot of its thrift store at 1112 Academy Street, Ahoskie. Not only will goodies be distributed for all the small ghouls and goblins, but also for the adults.
