HARRELLSVILLE, NC – Mr. Willie Brake, Jr., age 92, passed away on August 6, 2017 at his residence.
Mr. Brake was born on October 12, 1924 to Willie and Jane Hill Brake in Edgecombe County, NC. Willie was a member of South Side Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, NC. He and Doris spent seventy-one wonderful years together at Swains Mill. Willie was the owner and operator of Brake’s Fishing Center for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening with his son as long as his health permitted, then later becoming a good supervisor, making sure Robert kept the grass out of the garden. Willie was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend that will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillie Mae Collier and Mary Lea Strickland, and one brother, Don D. Brake.
Willie is survived by his loving wife of seventy-one years, Doris; his son, Robert Earl (Ellen) Brake of Ahoskie, NC; two sisters, Edith Elizabeth Landing of Nashville, NC, and Emma Jane Williams of Rocky Mount, NC; one brother, Percy W. (Peggy) Brake of Rocky Mount, NC; two step-granddaughters, Tina (Laura) Copeland of Kill Devil Hills, NC, and Gina (Dennis) Smith of Edenton, NC; one step-great-grandson, Jevin Copeland; and two step-great-granddaughters, Jacy Copeland and Kylie Smith.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the Community Hospice Staff, Brittney Howell, his caregiver, Pam Smith, and Dr. Taylor for their dedication and care shown to Mr. Brake.
A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Ronald McSwain officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
