Dangerous intersection

To the Editor:

The following is a letter I sent to the State of North Carolina Department of Transportation, Division of Highways, Ahoskie.

Dear Highway Department:

I was involved in a vehicle accident on November 22, 2016 in Gates County at the intersection of Gates School Road (SR-1202) and Water Plant Road (SR-1216).

I was heading north on Gates School Road (toward US-13) at approximately 8:30 p.m. As I was nearing Water Plant Road, I could see headlights from the left on Water Plant Road. I assumed the vehicle was going to stop. It did not.

The vehicle crashed into me at the rear of my left front wheel, driver side door and rear door.

The investigating officer gave a citation to the other driver.

On June 8, 2017 at approximately 5 p.m., I was heading south on Gates School Road (toward Gates). As I entered the intersection, a blue car flashed across the intersection just in front of me. When I was able to stop my vehicle, I was shaking like a leaf.

I beg you to please take steps to modify the intersection to avoid the situations I encountered in November and June.

Thank you for your consideration.

James H. Sears
