WINDSOR – Playing their first game in over a week, Windsor American Legion Post 37s junior American Legion baseball team hopes to write a different script – or better, a different ending – to their game with the Hertford Pirates.

Instead, much like their first meeting, the Windsor nine were shut out again, this time by a final of 9-0.

Windsor managed just five hits, but committed six errors as Perquimans exploded for eight runs in the third inning.

“I thought we played well except for the third inning obviously,” said Rebels coach Bobby Harmon.  “We made a couple of errors that inning and left a few balls up.  You can’t leave the ball up against them because they can swing it really well.”

The Pirates got on the board first, picking up a run (earned) in the top of the first inning on a couple of hits for a 1-0 lead after one complete.

Perquimans went three up-and-three down in the second, but batted around in the third inning, getting eight runs, six earned, on seven hits as Windsor committed two errors.  Wood Trowell, who relieved starter Trenton White, didn’t have his best as the Pirates upped their lead to 9-0.

In the bottom of the fourth it looked like Windsor might break through.  Evan Wells got a one-out single to centerfield and went to second on Jarrett Burden’s base hit. Despite the fielder misplaying the ball on the play, Burden was thrown out at second, but Wells made it to third, the first and only time the Rebels would get as far as the Keystone sack.  However, a groundout killed any chance of Windsor scoring.

Harmon used four more pitchers to get some arms loose, and the Pirates only got one more hit, but the damage was done. Alden Cottle, James Brooks, Bryce Stevens, and Burden also pitched for the Rebels.

White was 2-for-3 at the dish while Trowell, Wells, and Burden got the other three hits for Windsor.   

“Just need to clean a few things up for the Washington game on Saturday,” said Harmon. “I think we’ll be okay.

Windsor (4-3, 3-3, conference) had the Friday (last) night Edenton game postponed before hosting Beaufort County on Saturday.  The Rebels’ home stand continues Wednesday when they entertain Ahoskie Post 102.
