RICH SQUARE, NC – Sylvia Proctor Lassiter, age 84, of Rich Square, passed away on June 8, 2017 at the Duke University Medical Center of Durham, NC.

Mrs. Lassiter was born in Nash County on July 6, 1932, a daughter of the late William Fred and Mary Frances Coley Proctor. Sylvia was raised in Dortches, NC, and she was a graduate of Red Oak High School, and ECTC (now East Carolina University). Sylvia was retired as a Home Economics teacher, having worked for Northampton County Public Schools, Northeast Academy, and Halifax Academy.

Besides her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 50 years, Claudie Wilson Lassiter, and her brother, Francis Proctor.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Robin Lassiter Turner and husband, Steven Taylor Turner of Fuquay-Varina, NC; her son, Timothy Francis Lassiter and wife, Martha of Durham, NC; two grandsons, Brian Christopher Turner of Fuquay-Varina, NC, and Eric Michael Lassiter of Durham, NC; a granddaughter, Abigail Rose Lassiter of Durham, NC; niece, Nancy Proctor Chappell of Charlotte; and loving caregiver, Phyllis Bracy of Rich Square, NC.

The family will receive friends at the home of Sylvia, 613 West Jackson St., Rich Square, NC, on Saturday, June 10, 2017, from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at 2:00 pm at the Rich Square Baptist Church, Rich Square, NC, with Rev. Bob Rogers, officiating.

Burial will follow in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Rich Square, NC.
