L.Z. Felton

EURE – Louis Zachariah “L.Z.” Felton, 89, of US 13 South, Eure, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017 in Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Mr. Felton was born on October 9, 1927, and was the son of the late Miles Nathaniel “Nat” Felton and Lillie Williams Felton. Retired from the NC Department of Agriculture, he was a meat and poultry inspector for 25 years, and a supervisor compliance officer for 15 years. A member of Cool Spring Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon, Trustee, and Assistant Sunday School Teacher, he also enjoyed membership in the Gatesville Masonic Lodge for over 64 years (Past Master), the Roanoke-Chowan Shrine Club, the Sudan Temple of the Shrine, Hall Ruritan Club (Past President), the Gates County and White Oak Hunt Clubs, Ray’s Beach Fishing Club, and was an Honorary member of the Eure Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Felton had proudly served his country in the United States Army, and was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Butler Felton, who he married in April of 1951, and with whom he enjoyed many years of happiness between their homes in Eure and on the Outer Banks. He also was predeceased by his brother, Melvin “Bud” Felton; and by sisters, Bessie Clay Eure, Cordell Turner, and Viola Davidson.

Surviving are his foster sister, Lillian Eure Taylor of Eure; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 6 at 3:00 p.m. in Cool Spring Baptist Church, and will be conducted by the Revs. Joe McKnight and Roger Kiker. Masonic Rites will be accorded in the church, and afterwards the burial will follow on the family plot in the church cemetery.

Friends may join the family in the social hall immediately following the service, and all other times at the home of his niece, Vicki Taylor, 22 Corner High Road, Eure. Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, is assisting the family with arrangements.
