AHOSKIE – The Ridgecroft School junior varsity softball team ended the year by sweeping the Hobgood Postseason Tournament (4-0) and posting a 13-4 overall record, the best in the program’s four-year history.

The young Rams had the best Tarheel Independent Conference record for the third consecutive year of the five league teams. Coaches David Spence and Brent Taylor constantly reinforced fundamentals and pushed the girls to achieve new heights, both individually and as a team.

Courtney Taylor became the first player in j.v. program history to hit a home run over the fence against Albemarle while Clayson Spence became the first pitcher to pitch a perfect game versus a tough Lawrence Academy team.

Spence took the bulk of the pitching load and compiled an 8-4 record while pitching 52 innings. She finished with 57 strike outs, 35 walks and gave up 38 hits in posting a 2.42 ERA. Taylor Maione (4-0) pitched 21 innings with 14 strike outs and allowed 10 walks with 23 hits. Carlie Kennington tallied nine innings of work with seven strike outs, six walks and five hits and recorded one win. Other pitching action came from Camryn Joyner who pitched three innings with four strike outs, seven walks and she allowed one hit.

Isabella Woodard led the team in batting with a .471 average. She also led in hits and runs batted in. Courtney Taylor was second in hitting with an average of .395 and led the team in BBs, OBP and steals. Collectively, the team batted .337, stole 65 bases and scored 209 runs.

Season ending team awards were: MVP-Courtney Taylor; Raging Ram-Isabella Woodard, and Most Improved-Kacie Hoggard
