COLERAIN – Despite the death of its benefactor, a fundraiser planned on Saturday at the Trap Volunteer Fire Department will be held as originally scheduled.

The proceeds from the sale of plates at that event were to benefit Suzanne Bowen, a cancer patient who was a beloved employee for many years at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital. Bowen was also a former employee of the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald.

She passed away on Wednesday due to complications with cancer.

The meal – BBQ pork chops with stewed potatoes, slaw and a roll – will be served beginning at 11 a.m. on April 15 at the Trap VFD. Plates, which are available for an $8 donation, are available – first-come, first-served – by take-out only.

All proceeds will benefit the Bowen family in their time of need.
