LEWISTON – Bertie County Sheriff John Holley is seeking the public’s help in determining the whereabouts of an Ahoskie man wanted in connection with the Feb. 22 break-in at a Bertie County church.

Holley says that on that date the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a breaking-and-entering that occurred at the Weeping Mary Missionary Baptist Church on 208 Weeping Mary Road in Lewiston.

Detective Sergeant Harris Williams was the officer responding to the call, and upon arrival at the church Williams discovered the suspect had made entry through a back window.

Several items were taken from the premises, including an orange Igloo ice cooler, a small white refrigerator, two speakers, two floor microphones, and one public-address system, all property of the church.

Later it was discovered that other items among the church’s music equipment were also taken, including a Fender guitar, an EV mixing console, EV speakers, and several music stands.

Following his investigation, Williams was able to determine a suspect and an arrest warrant has been drawn up for Deandre Wiggins of 314 Alton Street West in Ahoskie for breaking and entering at the Weeping Mary Church.

Wiggins also has warrants on file with the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office for felony possession of stolen property and felony obtaining property by false pretense.

Holley said Wiggins’ current whereabouts are unknown and warrants have been entered into the National Crime Information Center listing him as a wanted person since he remains at large at this time.
