Bears win in OT

KILL DEVIL HILLS – Hertford County hung on and beat First Flight 83-75 here Friday night, but the Bears needed overtime to pull off the win.

After Hertford County led by 14 points, 38-24 at halftime, the sharp-shooting Nighthawks made up ground and took the lead after the third quarter, 55-50.

With four minutes remaining Hertford County trailed by 10 points but rallied behind Jaquarii Roberson and Talik Totten to force overtime at 70-70 at the end of regulation.

Roberson finished with 32 points – 10 in overtime.  Totten tallied 17 points with nine for Delmonta Cherry, six each for Dunyasha Porter, Rayshawn Beamon, and Lance Hunter.  Zion Riddick scored three, while Dana Goodman and Deandre Beverly had two apiece to round out the scoring.

“It was a hard-fought game,” said Bears coach Charles Simmons. “The team played extremely well and I am so proud of them for getting a big conference win on the road to stay unbeaten in the league.”

Hertford County raised its record to 9-4 and 5-0 in conference play.

First Flight won the girls’ game 66-37; dropping the Lady Bears to 2-11 overall and 0-5 in league play.
