RICH SQUARE, NC – Mrs. Anne Laura Lassiter Emory died at Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC on January 8, 2017. She was born on May 26, 1928 to Mattie Davis Lassiter and Eugene Lassiter. She grew up in the town of Lasker, NC.
She graduated from Rich Square High School in 1945 and Meredith College in 1949 where she received her degree in education. For forty plus years, she taught elementary education at Ahoskie, Woodland, Jackson, Rich Square with the last twenty-five years teaching sixth grade at Northeast Academy in Lasker, NC.
Anne was a member of Rich Square United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was also a member of the choir.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Mattie Davis Lassiter and Eugene Lassiter, her husband, Eugene Wright Emory, Sr., two sisters, Grey Lassiter Bristow and Mae Lassiter Collier, and two brothers, Millard Eugene Lassiter and Claudie Wilson Lassiter.
She is survived by her sons, Eugene Wright Emory, Jr. of Nags Head, NC and Scott Lassiter Emory and his wife Julie of Lasker, NC. She is survived by one granddaughter, Rebecca Walston Emory of Lasker, NC and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and family on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square, NC and other times at the family home in Rich Square.
A celebration of life service will be conducted on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Rich Square United Methodist Church with the interment following at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square.
