WASHINGTON – Beaufort County Post 15 beat Ahoskie Post 102, 3-1, in a junior American Legion baseball game here Tuesday night at Washington High School.

In the top of the first Jordan Robinson walked and stole second base. He would go to third on an Evan Lassiter ground out. However, a fly out ended Ahoskie’s first chance to score.

Beaufort County scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and the score was 3-0 in favor of Post 15 after one full inning of play.

Ahoskie scored its only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Lassiter got an infield single followed by Bradley Edwards reaching on a base-on-balls. Both runners moved into scoring position on Frankie Reppy’s fielder’s choice. A Hunter Mitchell sacrifice fly ball would score Lassiter, but Ahoskie just couldn’t get any other runs across the plate and it was 3-1, Beaufort County, after four complete. Neither team would score again for the remainder of the game.

Trent Munford pitched six innings and was saddled with the loss for Post 102. Munford allowed three runs on six hits sand he had three strikeouts.

Ahoskie managed just two hits: one each by Lassiter and Reppy.

“Beaufort County’s a good team,” said Ahoskie coach David Ellis. “We played well and Trent pitched a great game. We just have to hit the ball better. If we play like we did tonight we will win some games.”

Ahoskie falls to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play (the Albemarle loss last week was not designated as a conference game). Post 102 travels to Elizabeth City tonight (Thursday) for a rematch with Albemarle beginning at 7 p.m.
