Child shot; injuries not life- threatening

 LEWISTON WOODVILLE – Investigation is proceeding in a case involving a five-year-old who was shot here Sunday afternoon.

Bertie County Sheriff John Holley said his office received a call that a child had been shot and responded to a residence near the former Harrington Manufacturing facility.

“Once we arrived, we spoke with the child’s mother, who said she was on the telephone when she heard the gunshot,” Holley said. “She said she went and found the child with the wound.”

Sheriff Holley said his office is investigating the circumstances of the shooting.

The child was transported to Vidant Bertie Hospital in Windsor by Bertie County EMS, and then taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. His injuries are not life-threatening.
