EURE – Vernon Nathan Pope, 59, of 630 US Hwy 13 South, Eure, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016 in Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
Mr. Pope was born in Hertford County on March 30, 1956, and was the son of the late Vernon and Barbara Vann Pope. A licensed electrician, he had retired as the Maintenance Supervisor of the Hertford County Public Buildings and Grounds, was a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church, Winton Masonic Lodge #723, the Valley of New Bern Scottish Rite, the Gates County Hunt Club, and the White Oak Hunt Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Harrell; and his father-in- law, Pollard Hedgepeth.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Sandra Hedgepeth Pope; his son, Rodney Pope and friend Jeannie of Eure; two sisters, Rose Bennett and husband James of Potecasi, and Wanda Myers and husband Ed of Fort Myers, FL; three brothers, Eddie Pope and wife Irene, David Pope and wife Lisa, and Charlie Pope, all of Winton; his mother-in-law, Sadie Hedgepeth; and his brother-in-law, Ricky Hedgepeth and wife Paige, all of Eure; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, March 9 at 2:00 p.m. in Cool Spring Baptist Church Cemetery and will be officiated by his pastor, the Rev. Joe McKnight. Masonic Rites will be accorded by the Winton Lodge.
Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, in the social hall of the church immediately following the service on Wednesday, or all other times at the residence.
