MURFREESBORO – Ann Brown Evans, age 79, died on January 17, 2016 at Village at Woods Edge in Franklin, VA.

Mrs. Evans was born in Northampton County on December 26, 1936, a daughter of the late Garland and Flaura Pritchette Brown.

After graduating high school, Ann attended Johnston Willis Nursing School for two years and received her registered nurse degree. She worked as nurse supervisor for Hertford Gates District Health Department, and during her 30 year career there became a beloved nurse to many.

Mrs. Evans enjoyed many activities, which included spending time at the cottage on the Chowan River, working in her flower gardens at home, and reading books. One thing she really enjoyed was “The Card Party”, her group of ladies that would get together once a month, go out for dinner, and play a few hands of Rook.

Besides her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard Tabb Evans, Jr., and her sister, Frances Burgess.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Kay Evans Jones and husband, Mark of Ahoskie, NC; her son, Richard Tabb Evans, III and wife, Gina of Charlotte, NC; and her four grandchildren, Drew Jones, Evans Jones, Mary Claire Evans, and Ben Evans, who will greatly miss their cherished “Nana”. Also surviving is her sister, Kathleen Evans and husband, Ellis of Murfreesboro, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Garrett Sykes Memorial Chapel Murfreesboro, NC.

A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at 11:00 am at the Murfreesboro Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, NC, with Rev. Dr. Lee Canipe officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.

The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the staff of Village at Woods Edge for the kindness, compassion, and care given to their mother during her stay there.
