VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Oscar James Byrd, age 84, died on January 6, 2016 at the Sentara Leigh Hospital of Norfolk, VA.

Mr. Byrd was born in Bertie County on November 11, 1931, the son of the late Oscar and Addie Perry Byrd. He was retired from the United States Armed Forces.

Besides his parents, Oscar was preceded in death by his sisters.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at 11:00 am at Highland Memorial Gardens with Rev. Greg Hurdle officiating.
