Armed robber nabbed Friday in Windsor

EDENTON – A man wanted for an armed robbery in Edenton on Friday was arrested less than an hour later in Windsor.

According to witn.com, 26-year-old Kelvin Eugene Singleton of Edenton was arrested and charged with armed robbery, attempted kidnapping, and stealing a motor vehicle.

Edenton police say Singleton was also wanted by the Charlotte Police Department for assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury and other violations.

Police say that at around 9:30 p.m. Singleton entered Pearls Tobacco Plus on 315 North Granville Street in Edenton and demanded money from the clerk. Police say he then forced the clerk outside at gunpoint and attempted to force the clerk into the clerk’s vehicle. The clerk refused. Police say Singleton took the clerk’s keys and drove away.

Windsor police caught the suspect around 10 p.m. Friday while he was trying to buy gas for the stolen vehicle in that Bertie County town.

Singleton is being held in the Chowan County jail under a $500,000 bond.
