WINDSOR – Margaret Urquhart Griffin died peacefully in her home on December 17. Her gracious 96 years were always in the faithful service of her family, community, and church, and providing generously to many local, state and national charities helping those in need.

“Sittie”, as she was known to most, was born August 5, 1919, in Woodville – now Lewiston-Woodville – Bertie County, NC. She spent most of her life there among her loving family and many cousins. She graduated from St. Margaret’s School, Tappahannock, VA, and Women’s College (now UNC-G), Greensboro, NC, and then joined the Navy WAVES in Washington, DC at the Bureau of Naval Personnel in the Casualties Division. Upon returning to her home in 1945, she became the Office Manager of Woodville Supply Company, her family’s farming business, and was treasurer and principal caretaker of her beloved Grace Episcopal Church.

Sittie is predeceased by her brother Thomas Whitmel Griffin; and her parents, Thomas and Margaret U. Griffin, and leaves many friends and family to celebrate her selfless life.

While loved by everyone, none were more devoted to her than her caregivers, unfailingly faithful to her and her brother for the past 10 years. She never failed to attribute the length and quality of her life to Berthina Cherry, Bruce Crowell, Elizabeth Askew, Lisa Taylor, and Patricia Boone.

The graveside funeral will be at Grace Episcopal Church in Lewiston-Woodville on Monday, December 21 at 11 am, with all invited to Johnny and Claudia Griffin’s home afterwards.

Arrangements are made by Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, NC.

If desired, her life may be honored with donations to Grace Episcopal Church, or to Historic Woodville, P.O. Box 326, Lewiston-Woodville, NC 27849.
