AULANDER, NC- Charlie Cleveland Smith, age 79 of Aulander, died on December 14, 2015 at the Vidant Medical Center of Greenville, North Carolina.

A native of Bertie County, Charlie was born on December 2, 1936 to the late Charlie Minton Smith and Hazel Miller Smith.

Charlie worked as a mechanic, well known for talents fixing and repairing farm machinery. He loved bird hunting, deer hunting and going to the beach to fish off the pier. Charlie was a member of Millennium Pentecostal Holiness where he served as past deacon and was always available to do whatever repairs were needed at the church. Charlie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Smith.

Charlie is survived by his wife Edith of the home; his daughter, Lou Ann Smith Simmons and her husband Brian; granddaughter, Kelli Nicole Simmons and grandson, Austin Cleveland Simmons, all of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; three sisters, Ruby Smith Mince of Edenton, North Carolina, Rachel Smith of Tarboro, North Carolina, and Mary Skinner of Edenton, North Carolina; brother, Andrew Smith and his wife Renell of Suffolk, Virginia; sister-in-law, Shirley Smith of Union, North Carolina, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 17, 2015 from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service of Ahoskie, North Carolina.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015, at 2:00 pm at the Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church of Aulander, North Carolina with the Rev. Taylor Latham and Rev. Greg Hurdle officiating. Burial will follow at Aulander Cemetery.
