WOODLAND – Valentine Cotton White, age 89 of Woodland, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, December 6, 2015.

She was born on February 14, 1926 to the late Pat and Ruth Cotton of Franklin, VA.
Mrs. White was a long time member of the Woodland Baptist Church and served as Church Clerk for forty-one years starting in 1960. She taught RA’s and was a member of the WMU. Mrs. White worked for Judge Burgwyn and his son Bill for a number of years. She was the first employee at the Talon Zipper Factory in Woodland. She held several administrative positions, including Town Clerk of Woodland and ending with Parker Manufacturing of George.
Ms. Valentine married the love of her life “Gus” in 1945 and remained happily together for over seventy years. She was committed to her family, her community, and her church.
She was preceded in death by mother, Ruth Thompson Cotton; father, Pat D. Cotton; brother, Francis Cotton; and grandson, Jonathan Ledbetter.
Ms. Valentine is survived by her husband, Leslie White of the home; daughter, Dianne White Ledbetter of New Bern, NC; two sons, Leslie, Jr. and his wife Cathy Warren of Wake Forest, NC and John Valentine and his wife Pamela of Cary, NC; sister, Joyce Cotton Wynns of Boone, NC; sister-in-law, Juanita Cotton of Franklin, VA; grandson, Ben Ledbetter of Rutherfordton, NC; and granddaughter, Valerie Maguire and her husband Dave of San Antonio, TX.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the loving caregivers who have allowed their mother and father the ability to remain comfortably at home for many years. The family wishes to express a special thank you and love to Rose Bennett for her years of devotion to Ms. Valentine and Gus.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 10, 2015 from 1:00-2:00 pm at Woodland Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm at the Woodland Baptist Church with Rev Heath Lloyd officiating.
The interment will be at the Woodland Cemetery.
